Four robots, four definitions of 'best'
This category can’t be ranked with a single list, because its four protagonists are playing different games. Digit plays at working: since June 2024 it has moved totes in a GXO warehouse under the industry’s first humanoid-as-a-service contract, and that payroll entry is the hardest evidence in the category. Figure plays at industry: its BMW record (more than 30,000 cars supported by the Figure 02, with the 03 already in internal logistics) is the deepest technical résumé, but you can’t hire it unless you’re a global manufacturer.
Unitree plays at volume: the G1 is the only humanoid on the planet with a buy button, and its 5,500+ units in 2025 give it the largest installed base, with the fine print that you’re buying a platform to program, not a worker. And Tesla plays at promise: Optimus has the ambition, the factory and the fame, but remains pre-production and its viral moments were teleoperated. How to read this category without buying smoke
Three questions sort the entire 2026 humanoid market. Does it work today without an operator? Only Digit and the Figures in factories make the cut; everything else is platform or promise. Can I buy or hire it? Only the G1 can be bought and only Digit hired as a service; Optimus and Figure have no button. Who publishes the data? Distrust the video and look for the customer: Digit’s numbers are signed by GXO and Figure’s confirmed by BMW, while Optimus’s figures remain its maker’s targets.
