what is a humanoid robot?
A humanoid robot is a robot shaped like a human body: two legs, two arms, a torso and a sensor-laden head. The shape is not an aesthetic whim but an economic bet: the entire world (stairs, doors, tools, shelves) is designed for our body, and a machine with our silhouette can in theory work in it without remodeling anything. That promise has made humanoids robotics' most funded and most exaggerated category.
The real state in 2026, verified robot by robot in our humanoid hub: the Agility Digit already earns money moving boxes in warehouses, the Unitree G1 put research at $16,000 and the R1 lowered the bar to $5,900, while the Tesla Optimus remains the most famous and the most teleoperated at its starring moments. The word lives next to two neighbors worth separating. An android is a humanoid designed to look human (skin, face, gestures); almost no commercial humanoid attempts it. And a bipedal robot is not always humanoid: there are legged machines with no arms. This house's practical boundary: if it can use a person's space and tools, it is a humanoid; if it also tries to pass as a person, it is an android.
